If until now I had only low ratings for the games, the games in this article scored rather high on my scale.
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2010 – 8 / 10
EA Sports made a surprise by this title; this may be however because being a fan of car chases and police action I looked at this game with more interest that to others. I reached about 95 % of the game completed but I had to take gameplay to a halt, because even for this game the repetitive races and monotony caught up and made me loosen up the gameplay. The game features decent graphics, decent sound ( but the developer could have worked more on this chapter ). The cars are beautifully designed, an aspect that I found quite impressive as the cars seemed very realistic with the sole condition that the game is run in full details.
Mafia II – 9 / 10
Mafia II was definitely the most anticipated game for 2010 by me and probably by many other gamers. What impression did it left me with? Well, the overall impression was quite good but the final score was clearly overshadowed by the fact that the game was literally cut in several addons for reasons easy to understand ( that thing that makes more and more manufacturers to release unfinished games, just pull some extra profit as quickly as possible with DLCs and addons that optimize and complete the game ).
Very good graphics and good thing they maintained the captivating classic Mafia story style ( though it was not quite the success in the first game, even if it was a really incredible story ), a very suitable soundtrack and what I liked most was the fact that the gameplay was pretty good but sometimes boring, especially because too much driving is involved in the game and too little action. This aspect was especially observed in the two addons that I also played namely Mafia II : Jimmy's Vendetta and Mafia II : Joe's Adventure. The first addon, Jimmy's Vendetta seemed very weak in terms of gameplay and that’s because the game became monotonous and repetitive after the first half hour of gameplay.
The second addon unfortunately, Joe's Adventure, did not jump very far from the first in terms of gameplay, but clearly won some points in that the game storyline was continued fluently. In conclusion, Mafia II is a good game, but not up to the expectations I had of this title.
